Garden Workshop: Propagation with the Gardens & Horticulture Team

Roll up your sleeves and spend the morning digging into the art and science of plant propagation with the Cummer Museum’s Gardens & Horticulture Team. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll practice a variety of techniques – including growing from seed, taking cuttings, dividing plants, and air-layering – while building skills you can confidently use at home. As you work alongside our team, you’ll gain practical knowledge, take home newly propagated plants, and leave inspired to grow your own garden in new ways.

Please note: The workshop takes place in the garden hoop house, which may be warm. Dress comfortably.

Advanced Art of Portrait Drawing with Artist William McMahan

Take your portrait-drawing practice further in this advanced workshop with artist William McMahan. Designed for returning students or those with prior experience, this session offers extended studio time to refine technique, strengthen observation skills, and deepen personal style. Work from a live model as McMahan provides individualized guidance to help you grow as an artist. Supplies not included.

Garden Workshops: Floral Photography Workshops with Rosie Lalonde

Capture the beauty of the Cummer Gardens in this hands-on floral photography workshop series led by photographer and mentor Rosie Lalonde. Whether you’re shooting with a DSLR/SLR camera or your phone, you’ll learn techniques to elevate your images and strengthen your creative eye. Participants must bring their own cameras or mobile devices.

About the Instructor
Rosie Lalonde has a lifelong passion for photography, mentoring, and celebrating the beauty of nature. She began her career in her early 20s specializing in ministry outreach photojournalism before moving into documentary-style children’s and wedding photography. Now retired from commercial work, Rosie devotes her time to teaching – leading hands-on floral photography workshops and authoring accessible floral-focused training videos. Her goal is simple – to help others take their floral photography and post-processing to higher levels of excellence.

Make & Take: Natural Perfume Making

Discover the art and science behind natural perfumery as you explore how organic ingredients blend to create distinctive scents. Guided by hands-on instruction, you’ll experiment with botanical essences, learn foundational fragrance-building techniques, and craft a personalized perfume to take home.

Make & Take classes offer an introductory hands-on experience for visitors who want to try a new technique in a relaxed, welcoming environment. In these sessions, participants receive a brief overview of materials and techniques, then focus on guided experimentation and completing a project to take home.

These classes are ideal for beginners, curious learners, and anyone looking to try something new. They are designed for creative exploration and do not include advanced instruction or extended skill development.

Mushrooms at the Edge: A Workshop with Samurai Fungi

Step into the earthy world of fungi with John Ren of Samurai Fungi in this engaging workshop exploring the role of mushrooms in natural ecosystems and artistic inspiration. Drawing connections to the textures and tones of Andrew Wyeth’s depictions of rural life at Kuerner Farm, this introductory session invites participants to consider the hidden layers of the land beneath their feet. Through a one-hour lecture paired with visuals and a 30-minute Q&A, you’ll learn the fundamentals of growing mushrooms at home – from spores to harvest – using low-cost, accessible methods. 

Bonus Make & Take: Each participant will also inoculate their own mini mushroom log to take home. Learn the basics of spore inoculation and create a functional, living sculpture that will grow over time, bringing a touch of nature’s quiet magic to your own backyard or garden.
