When asked about this painting, Foard stated, “I've spent a lot of time in the Cummer Gardens. I particularly love standing in the shade of the Cummer Oak and imagining all the moments that have happened on this beautiful piece of land over the years: the Cummer family gatherings, children's camps, evening concerts, and all the tiny interpersonal private moments amongst its visitors. I chose to paint the Cummer after the Mason Gallery was built since the museum footprint changed so radically. I have such a strong affection for my time spent in and around this museum that I had to honor it as part of my own journey.”
