Cummer STEAM at the Michele Block Gan Yeladim Preschool
Early childhood is a time of exploration and discovery. The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens and the Jewish Community Alliance are working together to bring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) to the early childhood program at the Michele Block Gan Yeladim (Hebrew for “Garden of Children”) Preschool. The students, led by a member of the Cummer Museum’s education team, experience the Galleries and Gardens and delve into hands-on activities in the classrooms and the children’s gardens of Gan Yeladim. These experiences are built upon by the staff of Gan Yeladim and realized in garden and museum days within their own walls, where the students share the “fruit of their labors.” Aiding in this initiative, the Cummer Museum staff offers professional development workshops for the early childhood faculty and cooperatively develops a STEAM curriculum.
