Join us for Tuesday Night Talk Backs, a special series in conjunction with Zanele Muholi: Somnyama Ngonyama, Hail The Dark Lioness. These free programs, led by Exhibition Host Committee members Joni Poitier and Charles Garrison and Museum staff, Danielle Garcia, will host a limited number of attendees to engage in an open discussion in response to featured works. Joni Poitier is a partner and civil litigator at Moseley Prichard Parrish Knight & Jones and recipient of the 2019 Woman Lawyer of the Year award from the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association. She volunteers with many organizations including the Women’s Board of Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Family Foundations of Northeast Florida, the St. Bernadette Council at St. Pius V Catholic Church and Catholic Charities Bureau. Poitier serves as the co-chair of the diversity committee for the Jacksonville Bar Association and volunteers with the Ribault Future Lawyers and Leaders Mentoring Program. She also serves as the vice chair of the Florida Elections Commission.
Charles Garrison is a board member of Jasmyn and the Business Development Manager at Carlton Construction. Garrison is an appointee to the Jacksonville Housing & Community Development Commission and is the incoming Third Vice President of the Sales & Marketing Council for the Northeast Florida Builders Association (NEFBA). He serves in numerous volunteer capacities with the Jacksonville Area Sexual Minority Youth Network, HabiJax, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Dignity U Wear.
Danielle Garcia joined the Museum as a Museum Educator in 2019. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Florida with experience in museum education, curatorial work, and studio arts. She is the Museum’s Accessibility Coordinator and primarily works with visitors from diverse communities and with diverse abilities, leading access programs such as Museum Access for Kids, Women of Vision, and the Blind Ambition Art Club at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind. She collaborates with Museum Educators and other departments to ensure that museum experiences are welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to all.
