Living Art: Gardening as Both Preservation and Transformation

September 12, 2023
7 to 8 P.M.

The Cummer Gardens are a living work of art, created by Ninah Cummer and shaped by time and the Museum. As the world changes, so too do the gardens. Join Patrick MacRae, the Museum’s Doolittle Family Director of Gardens & Horticulture, for a discussion about the delicate balance between maintaining the historic integrity of the gardens while adjusting proactively to the imperative to move the gardens forward aesthetically, horticulturally, and environmentally in the face of climate change, shifting visitor expectations, and rapidly evolving best practices. Patrick will share his insights on how we can continue to honor Ninah’s legacy while creating gardens that are both beautiful and sustainable for future generations.
