Evening Bourbon Tasting and Lecture with Jon Carloftis
November 5, 2014
6:30 to 8:30 P.M.
The Cummer Museum is excited to welcome Kentucky native and gardening guru, Jon Carloftis, for a full day of programming.
Mr. Carloftis has been an award-winning pioneer in America’s rooftop and small space gardening, as well as a participant in the Edible Schoolyard Project on the mall in Washington, D.C., a one-acre garden to improve the eating habits of schoolchildren and promote sustainable agriculture.
The Museum is thrilled to host Mr. Carloftis for two different events on November 5. First Mr. Carloftis will be speaking on “Art in the Garden and Nature as Art.” This talk will focus on how to integrate artwork in your personal garden and how to use trees, shrubs, stones, fish, animals, etc. as art. Up to 80 people will be able to enjoy this day time talk and with a special luncheon in the recently restored Olmsted Gardens located on the picturesque St. Johns River. During the evening, a cocktail party featuring a Maker’s Mark Bourbon tasting and artful nibbles will precede another talk by Carloftis. His evening discussion will focus on “Style in the Garden”. Patrons are invited to enjoy a Daytime Luncheon and Lecture, an evening cocktail reception, or both! The 11 a.m. demonstration will be held in the Olmsted Garden, and the 6:30 p.m. Evening Bourbon Tasting and Lecture will be held in the Auditorium and Cafe Patio. In the event of inclement weather, both events will be held in the Hixon Auditorium.
