The fad for Japanese art and culture was wildly popular in Europe in the late nineteenth century. Its influence is seen in the works of Manet, Monet, Degas, and Van Gogh. In the Cummer collection, de Jonghe’s Japanese Fan, reflects the admiration for all things Japanese. A brief preview of the upcoming exhibition “Tattoos in Japanese Prints from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston” (opening October 27th) will also be included.
