Buddhist Compassion: Guanyin as Icon of Transformation Lecture by Dr. Sarah Mattice

Guanyin, the bodhisattva of compassion, is an important Buddhist figure who has fascinated scholars for centuries and who continues to hold great relevance today. Join Dr. Sarah Mattice, Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at UNF and author of Exploring the Heart Sutra (2021), for an overview of this intriguing figure with examples from Buddha and Shiva, Lotus and Dragon: Masterworks from the Mr. And Mrs. John D. Rockefeller 3rd Collection at Asia Society. Dr. Mattice’s research specializations are in Comparative and East Asian Philosophy and Religion. At UNF she often teaches courses such as Chinese Philosophy, Japanese Philosophy, Introduction to Buddhism, and Philosophy of Zen Buddhism.
