'Augusta Savage: Renaissance Woman' Closing Celebration

April 6, 2019
10 A.M. to 4 P.M.

Free | No registration required

Join us for a free, family-friendly, closing celebration for Augusta Savage: Renaissance Woman with live music, New York Times bestselling Author Vashti Harrison, and an original spoken word performance directed by Yvette Angelique Hyater-Adams.

Vashti Harrison will host a free Lecture & Book Signing at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for her New York Times bestselling children’s book Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History. Based on her popular Instagram posts from Black History Month 2017, it features 40 biographies of African American women that helped shape history, including Augusta Savage. Registration is required for these lectures, but the event is free of charge.

At noon in the Mason Gallery, Yvette Angelique Hyater-Adams will work with four local students, who have spent time in the exhibition to create their own story and response to the works in Augusta Savage: Renaissance Woman. Ms. Hyater-Adams, MA-TLA, runs Narratives for Change, a business using storytelling to cultivate and preserve women’s personal and leadership narratives.
