The Art and Therapy of Topiary: A Journey Through the History, Techniques, and Benefits of Creative Pruning with Mike Gibson, Topiary Artist

Topiary artist Mike Gibson explores the history, techniques, and therapeutic benefits of topiary - the art of shaping plants through creative pruning. Attendees will learn about the different forms that can be achieved through pruning, and how it can promote relaxation and mindfulness. Gibson will showcase stunning examples of topiary from around the world. Overall, attendees will gain a greater appreciation for the beauty and complexity of topiary and understand its many benefits. 

Self-taught topiary artist Mike 'Gibby-Siz' Gibson is internationally recognized for his unique and whimsical style. A certified SC landscape professional, he has over 20 years of experience and was a featured contestant on HGTV's Clipped with Martha Stewart. Gibson helped restore Pearl Fryar's Topiary Garden during his artist-in-residency last year and is currently revitalizing Columbia, SC. He provides educational workshops and lectures countrywide, teaching communities about the therapeutic benefits of topiary. Recently accepting the first artist-in-resident position at The Ernest A. Finney Jr., Cultural Arts Center in Columbia, SC, Gibson continues to beautify spaces and promote this lost art.
