Classrooms invited to attend the annual VSA Festival are also given the opportunity to receive a school visit from a member of the Cummer Museum’s education team prior to the festival. During this visit, the participating students are shown examples of what to anticipate during their trip to the Cummer Museum. They view photographs of children engaging in previous festivals, view and handle samples of art projects they will create during their visit to the Museum, and spend time creating a piece of art during the classroom visit with the Museum Educator. By the conclusion of the visit, the students have been introduced to new ideas about art-making and have made contact with a member of the Museum staff that they will meet again on their field trip, thus building a relationship between the classroom and the Museum.
This program is provided under a contract with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
