Clothing and Fashion in the Cummer Museum’s Permanent Collection

Saturday, October 18, 2014 to Monday, February 2, 2015

In conjunction with Icons of Style: Fashion Makers, Models, and Images, the Cummer Museum will highlight historical works from the Permanent Collection that explore the significance of clothing and fashion. American masterworks are placed in context with European precedents while focusing on the following themes: Greco-Roman trends; Elizabethan antecedents; Marie Antoinette and the lure of the shepherdess; the influence of Japonisme following the opening of Japan to regular trade in 1853; and the mystique of Seminole patchwork.
